Changes to my study programme

I have a love-hate relationship with the curriculum of my degree program. I am a second year journalism student at the University of Chile (something my old readers already know ;) ), and I have made several observations about the subjects.

First, I think they should make a change regarding the basic training subjects, which we share with the Film and Television career, since they take up a lot of time and I don't consider them "important" at all.

I don't want my opinion to be misunderstood, I do think it is necessary to have those courses, since they still contribute to our professional training, but they should be changed the way they are practiced. Many times, for example, we do not have time to dedicate ourselves completely to the specific branches of the career (such as reporting or radio), because we pay attention to the "small" branches of basic training, because they sometimes demand a lot of time. I think they should merge them or reduce their academic load a lot.

Regarding the specific courses, I think they should give more room to more courses in the subject of "Radio", since we only see it for two semesters and radio is a fundamental part of the journalist's job.

I think that the career has a relevant duration. Journalism covers many areas, and it is necessary that time to be able to learn each one of them.

Regarding the infrastructure, I find that my faculty, the Institute of Communication and Image of the University of Chile, is very beautiful and very characteristic. It has several graffiti, paintings, writings representing the careers that are taught there (journalism and film), so it is a nice place to be.

I really like my career, but I hope that when we return to classes next year, we can recover the lost knowledge about the technologies that we must know how to use (such as cameras, microphones, etc.).

I hope to tell you about my return to college in a future blog!

Thanks for reading :)
